英国Economistに最初に読んだのが今から１０年前。定期購読を始めたのが１年前です。政治、経済ともにバランスとれた記事です。また、定期購読者は全文音声のダウンロードを無料で行うことができるので、ipodに入れて、通勤時間に聴いています。確かに、英語のレベルは難しいこともありますが、一年間、耳から聴き続けていると、独特の言い回しにも愛着が湧いてきます。

記事を理解するには、背景知識として歴史、宗教などについて知っていないと難しい。日本のメディアではなかなか取り上げられないアラブや南米についても特集され、読み応えがある。

購読後に送られて来る案内にしたがってEconomistのWebサイトに登録すると毎号すべての記事の音声版が入手できるのがとてもよいです。podcast版もあるので更新の手間が省けて便利。一冊全部を読むのは大変ですが、音声だと手軽に聞けるので重宝しています。
